Fine Arts Instructors

Sandra Reed
Sandra comes to us as an artist herself with over 20 years’ experience in the teaching industry with many diplomas and degrees to her credit. Sandra is a retired teacher, but fills her time as the art instructor at the Greenwood School of the Arts. The foundation of her life and the joy she finds in art is centered in Jesus Christ. The opportunity to share both her joy in the creative process and the skills to improve mastery of a media in an environment that celebrates faith in Christ is the goal of this art program.

Larissa Margeson
Larissa has always had a passion for teaching children and for the arts. As a graduate from Nipissing University where she minored in fine arts, Larissa remained at Nipissing to complete her teaching degree. She comes to us now as an experienced elementary school teacher after teaching in the northern community of Fort Albany for 5 years. Larissa is always looking for opportunities to share her passion for the arts with children in creative and constructive ways. By teaching them the skills they need she hopes that the children will develop and demonstrate their own passion through the arts.

Tim Hawman
Tim is the Pastor of our church and has a strong love for the arts. He often references paintings during sermons and you can tell he has a passion for the arts from the way he talks about them.
One of his favourite pass times is painting landscapes, he has a studio at the church. He has recently started sharing his gift, he hosted an Art Show last May and is always giving his artwork to people in the congregation.
He has passed on his love for painting to his daughter and now wishes to share it with other young people. Teaching them some of the skills he has perfected.

More Information

Greenwood Baptist Church along with the Greenwood School of the Arts are happy to invite you to our Third Annual visual arts camp this summer! All supplies, materials and snacks are provided for FREE!

This year we are offering three classes for three different age groups. Larissa will be teaching children ages 5-7, Sandra will be teaching children ages 8-10 and Tim will be teaching a special class for children ages 11-13.

The two younger classes will follow the order listed on the right. They will learn a new story from the bible each day and use the story as a theme for their artwork. Artists will learn new skills in a variety of mediums such as watercolour, conté, pastel and more! At the end of camp they will take home 5 original pieces on Friday.

The older class will be working on one masterpiece throughout the week. They will head straight to their art studio to have their own lesson taught by Pastor Tim. After a lesson they will begin working on their painting, a snack will be brought in for them to have at their leisure. Pastor Tim will go over instructions with more detail, they will learn skills such as colour mixing, composition and drawing skills. They will be using acrylic paint  and working on easels with canvas to make one piece of art to take home at the end of the week.

To end the camp artists and families are invited to join us at Greenwood on Friday, August 3rd for a gallery of the artwork created over the week and a FREE barbeque.
